Çal

For thousands of years, Çal has been a land shaped by the vine, situated within territories once regarded as a center of the Dionysian cult in antiquity. According to legend, it was here—present-day Çal / Ortaköy—that Dionysos, the god of wine, first introduced winemaking to humanity. With vines as its natural vegetation, the region bears the traces of many civilizations, from Lycia and Rome to Byzantium and Turkish settlement.
